Yesterday: Topic of the Day: ‘Fast and Furious’ Thoughts?Resounding yes from me. This is not about "being nice" or being "politically correct". I am fine with local business owners, in the house, etc talking in their native tongue to each other. My grandmother was fluent in Polish. BUT, everyone should learn and do business in English first. For my reasoning I lift from The Story of Civilization I (Our Oriental Heritage) by Will Durant. It is hard to find anyone who understands human civilization better. His resume? from 1935 to 1975, yes, 1935 to 1975 his life work was writing and publishing 11 volumes documenting human history. He makes it clear that having a uniform language to do business, educate, share ideas, pass down culture is almost essential to a society. His opening book in Chapter I started with "The Conditions of Civilization":There must be some unity of language to serve as a medium of mental exchange. Through church, or family, or schools, or otherwise, there must be a unifying moral code, some rules of the game of life acknowledged even by those who violate them, and giving to conduct some order and regularity, some direction and stimulus.

"EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY"
oui
Of course. The 7 keys to civilization. Look how far down the list "government" is.
1. Language
2. Religion
3. Culture
4. Economy
5. Agriculture
6. Government
7. Architecture
Johnny...This is a two part answer for me...YES AND Partly NO,
The Yes is because ofcourse where this nation was founded on etc. We all get that,
But I am sure you have been to south Texas, Mainly below Dallas and down to Brownsville...Now days it is a MUST you are practically bilingual in Spanish. It is not uncommon to be in a southern texas town, that only speaks Spanish.
Regardless of everyones opinions, I believe anyone with children in this day in age should be taught a dual language, based on the direction this country is going. I have a 6,3 year old who are in school that has a dual language program. Spanish half day, English half day. This is based on the perception of where this country is heading.
Thanks
