As the 2023 NBA Finals roll into Game 4, the Denver Nuggets are once again road favorites in Miami. The betting market for Game 4 picked up from where Game 3 closed. Wednesday night’s Game 3 initially saw Denver as 2.5-point favorites, which they remained for most of the betting period until a late surge of money for Denver pushed the spread up to -3.5 just before tip-off. Now, Game 4 opens with the Nuggets maintaining that -3.5 expected edge over the Heat.
As the teams set their sights on the upcoming game, the total stands at Over/Under 210.5, marking a slight decrease from the Game 3 closing total of 212.5. This lower figure could be tied to Game 3's combined score of just 203 points, and the notably slower pace that has characterized this series. Indeed, this total of 210.5 is the lowest between these teams since November 2021 and represents a significant 9-point decrease from the Game 1 total.
A key factor driving this lower total is the remarkably slow tempo at which this series is unfolding. While the Finals typically showcase a slower pace compared to regular season or playoff games, this series' current average of 89.4 possessions per team is especially low, marking the slowest pace seen in a finals series since 2014.
In terms of individual performance, expectations are high for Nuggets' superstar Nikola Jokic to sustain his impressive scoring streak. Following his 32-point display in Game 3, the prop betting market has set the bar higher for Jokic, with his points prop standing at Over/Under 30.5 - the highest it has been in these playoffs. So far in this series, Jokic has produced a jaw-dropping statline of 33 PPG, 14 RPG, and 9.8 APG.
In the Miami camp, Jimmy Butler's point prop for Game 4 has been set at Over/Under 26.5, a step up from Game 3, mirroring his impressive 28-point show. Although Butler exceeded his points prop in Game 3, it's worth noting that he has only managed to surpass his points prop 4 times in his last 14 games since an ankle injury kept him out of Game 2 of Round 2 against the New York Knicks.
Game 3 witnessed an unprecedented event, with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray becoming the first teammates in NBA Finals history to both record triple-doubles in the same game. Their remarkable performances were instrumental in the Nuggets' 109-94 victory over the Heat, reclaiming the lead in the series and bringing Denver tantalizingly close to its first title.
The next game, set for Friday in Miami, will undoubtedly be a decisive moment in the series. Will the Heat rise to the occasion and alter the course of the series, or will the Nuggets continue their impressive performance? The anticipation builds as we approach this pivotal showdown in the 2023 NBA Finals.
Denver is now -900 to win the Title, while the Heat are +600 - based on a consensus from Pregame.com.
