On February 26, 2011, former Canadian Defence Minister, the Honorable Paul Hellyer, spoke about UFOs before the International UFO Conference held at Fort McDowell Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. “It is a fraud for the U.S. government to pretend that it is not interested in UFOs. In fact, it has been a matter of high and probably pre-eminent interest for decades,” he said. He also talked about Canadian UFOlogist, Wilburt Smith, who was a senior employee at Transport Canada. He said Smith wrote a top secret memorandum to the Controller of Communications back in 1950 seeking permission to establish a group to study the geomagnetic aspects of UFO propulsion systems. At that time, Smith noted that UFOs were considered more dangerous than the H-bomb. Hellyer also noted that according to his sources, by the mid-1960s, aliens known as the Tall Whites were exchanging technology with the United States Air Force.
“It is alleged that the U.S. engineers working in one of the vast underground facilities have built vehicles that are virtually indistinguishable from those of other planets. If this is true, to what purpose will they be put, and will it be for good purposes or military purposes?” he asked.
