Analysis: The New York Mets took game 1 of this series last night, 1-0, behind a very good outing from Zack Wheeler. The Mets are now 33-40 on the year and still just 5 games behind the division leading Washington Nationals. The Mets are a sorry offensive team, as they come in ranked 25th in scoring (3.79 rpg), 29th in hitting (.230) and 27th in homers (51). Not good at all. The Pitching has been average as they come in ranked 11th in ERA (3.59) and 18th in WHIP (1.31), while also ranking 5th in quality starts (46). Getting the ball for the Mets will be Dice-K Matsuzaka, who has been in an out of the pen this year. So far he is 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA overall, and 2-0 with a 3.63 ERA in 4 starts this year. Dice-K is 1-0 with a 3.64 ERA in 2 career starts vs the Marlins.

Miami's loss last night was a bit surprising, considering the way they have played at home this year. The Marlins come in with a 24-16 mark at home for the year, while overall they are 36-36 and just 1.5 games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East. Miami is a solid offensive team, as they come in ranked 8th in scoring (4.42 rpg), 12th in hitting (.256) and 15th in homers (67). The pitching for this team has been very average, as they come in ranked 15th in ERA (3.82) and 21st in WHIP (1.35). Henderson Alvarez gets the ball for Miami tonight and he comes in at 3-3 on the year, with a solid 2.56 ERA overall, while at home he is 3-1 with a 1.62 ERA. Alvarez is 3-1 with a 2.62 ERA in 5 career starts vs the Mets.

Pick:  I will go with the Marlins to get one back here. The Mets won last night but still scored just 1 run in the game and that won't win many games for them, especially vs Miami at home, when the Marlins have averaged 4.88 rpg on the year. The Met offense has really struggle of late, scoring just 2.4 rpg in their last 11 games and they don't figure to get much more here vs Henderson Alvarez, who has a 1.672 ERA at home and a 1.27 ERA in his last 3 starts overall. Dice-K has been good for the Mets, but still he does have a 3.97 ERA in his last 3 starts and in his lone road start this year he allowed 4 ERs in 4.1 innings of work to the Cubs. I say he gets hit around again tonight, while the Alvarez keeps this Mets offense shutdown once again.
