Major League Baseball Odds Baltimore Orioles vs Seattle Mariners

Thursday night baseball and we will see the Baltimore Orioles take on the Seattle Mariners in game 1 of their 4 game series from Safeco Field in Seattle Washington. First pitch is scheduled for a 10:10 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

Baltimore     +115
Seattle         -135

Over/ Under: 7 U -130

Analysis: Baltimore lost a tough one last night, but they are still 55-45 on the year and 3 games ahead of both the Yanees and Blue Jays in the AL East. The Orioles have been a solid offensive team this year, ranking 8th in the league in scoring (4.29 rpg), 5th in hitting (.262) and 1st in homers (122). The pitching has been below average, as they rank 18th in the league in ERA (3.86) and 21st in WHIP (1.32). Getting the ball for the Orioles tonight will be Wei-Yin Chen, who is 10-3 with a 4.21 ERA on the year, while on the road he has gone 5-1 with a 4.68 ERA. Chen is 0-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 4 career starts vs the Mariners.

The Seattle Mariners have been scuffling a bit of late, as they come in having won just 2 of their last 7 games. Their recent slide ow has them at 9 games behind the Oakland A's in the AL West. The Mariners have struggled on offense this year, as they are ranked 23rd in scoring (3.92 rpg), 24th in hitting (.245) and 21st in homers (81). The pitching has been great for the Mariner, ranking 2nd in ERA (3.11) and 1st in WHIP (1.15). Getting the ball for the Mariners tonight will be Hisashi Iwakuma, who is 8-4 with a 2.95 ERA overall, while at home he is 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA. He is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA i career start vs the Orioles.

Pick: Going with the Under in this one. Seattle home games have averaged just 6.75 rpg, including averaging just 5.33 rpg in Iwakuma's home starts this year. Speaking of Iwakuma, he has been on fire of late, posting a 1.57 ERA in his last 4 starts, while having a 2.81 ERA and an 0.94 WHIP at home for the year. Wei-Yin Chen isn't in great form overall, but still he has allowed 3 ERs or less in 8 of his last 9 starts and 3 ERs or less in 3 of his 4 career starts vs the Mariners. The Orioles offense is strong, but they won't get much off of Iwakuma in this one, while the Mariners, who average just 2.78 rpg for Iwakuma in his home starts, won't get a whole lot off of Chen. The Under is 11-3 in Chen's last 14 starts vs the AL West, while the Under is 21-6 in their last 27 games following a loss and 17-6-3 in their last 26 games vs a left-handed starter. 5 runs or less here.
