Major League Baseball Odds -- San Francisco Giants vs St Louis Cardinals

Friday night baseball and we will see the San Francisco Giants take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 2 of their 4 game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis. First pitch is scheduled for a 8:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

San Francisco       +130
St Louis                 -150

Over/ Under: 6.5 O -115

Analysis: The San Francisco Giants come in with the best record in baseball at 35-19 and are currently 6.5 games ahead of the LA Dodgers in the NL West. San Fran is 16-10 on the road this year as well. The Giants come in ranked 12th in the league in scoring (4.25 rpg), 21st in hitting (.245) and 3rd in homers (62). The pitching for the Giants has been very good, as they come in ranked 3rd in ERA (3.07) and 3rd in WHIP (1.18). Getting the ball for the Giants tonight will be lefty Madison Bumgarner, who has pitched well this year and comes in with a 6-3 mark and a 3.15 ERA overall, while also going 3-1 with a skinny 1.88 ERA on the road. Madison has faced the Cards 5 times in his career and is just 2-3 with a 4.32 ERA in those starts.

The St Louis Cardinals come in having won 10 of their last 15 games, to push their season record to 29-25, which currently has them at 3 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. The St Louis Cardinals have struggled to score this year as they rank 21st in runs scored at 3.93 rpg. That is despite the fact that they are 8th in the league in hitting, with a .258 batting average. Pitching has not been an issue for this team, as they come in ranked 5th in ERA (3.30), 2nd in WHIP (1.17) and 7th in Ks (436). Cardinal ace Adam Wainwright will get the ball tonight and he has pitched like an Ace this year, coming in with an 8-2 mark and a 1.67 ERA on the year overall, while going 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA at home. Adam is 4-4 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 appearances (8 starts) vs the Giants.

Pick:  I will be going with the Cardinals tonight. Here is a stat for you. Adam Wainwright is 5-0 with an 0.57 ERA and an 0.66 ERA in 6 night starts this year. Very impressive. He is also 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA and an 0.70 WHIP at home this year. Just dominant this year is Adam. Madison Bumgarner has been solid on the road, with a 3-1 mark and a 1.88 ERA, but this is a team he has struggled vs of late as he is 0-4 with a 7.03 ERA in his last 4 starts vs the Cards, and that includes going 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in his last 2 starts here. The Cards did lose last night's game, but are still 40-16 in their last 56 home games and 17-5 in Wainwright's last 22 starts vs the NL West, while the Giants are 10-23 in their last 33 vs the NL Central. Cards get one back here.
