Major League Baseball Picks Texas Rangers vs Boston Red Sox

Wednesday night baseball and we will see the Texas Rangers take on the Boston Red Sox in game 3 of their 3 game series from Fenway Park in Boston. First pitch is scheduled for a 4:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

Texas        +145
Boston       -165

Over/ Under: 9 U -120

Analysis: The Rangers come in at 4-4 on the year and their offense finally got back on track last night as they scored 10 runs in the win over the Sox last night. The Rangers pounded out 13 hits in the win, with 6 of them being doubles and Prince Fielder broke out of his slump with a 2 for 5 night and he had 2 RBIs as well. The Rangers are now 12th in the league in scoring 94.5 rpg) and 5th in hitting (.277). Getting the ball for the Rangers today will be Robbie Ross, who allowed just 2 ERs in 5 innings of work in his first start of the year vs Philadelphia. That was actually his first ever start in the Majors as injuries to the Rangers staff has forced him into the rotation.  Ross has made five career relief appearances against the Red Sox, yielding a total of one run and five hits in 3 1/3 frames.

As For the Red Sox, they are now just 1-4 at home after last night's 10-7 loss to Texas. For the year now the Sox are just 3-5 and much of their slow start can be attributed to an offense that is 17th in the league in scoring (3.88 rpg). The team is 3rd in BA (.288) and are led by Mike Napoli, who has a .364 average in the early going, while AJ Pierzinski has been hot of late with 6 hits in his last 8 ABs. Getting the Ball for the BoSox is Jake Peavy, who allowed just 2 ER's in 6 innings vs Milwaukee in his first start of the year. Jake not had good success vs the Rangers in his career as he is 0-2 with a 7.59 ERA in 4 starts vs them.

Pick:  I know that Jake Peavy has had his struggles withe the Rangers, but I still like Boston to bounce back with a nice win in this one. Robbie Ross is not really a starter and should struggle vs this angry Boston offense tonight. Jake Peavy has not pitched well in his career vs the Rangers but he is a combined 51-28 in the first two month of the season during his career and he is 3-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 5 career starts in this park. I expect Boston to get back on track tonight.
