If you have the ability to bet with your head and not your heart then betting games involving your Hometown teams can be very profitable. The problem is most bettors can't do that as they don't want to root against their hometown team. I learned very early on you can't bet with your heart and a be a successful sports bettor. I remember speaking at a handicapping seminar in Las Vegas when someone from the crowd ask me do I have a favorite team. I answered absolutely in fact I have several favorite teams. The guy looked puzzled and then I explained that my favorite team is who ever I have my money on the day. That's my favorite team.

Now if I don't have any money on the game then yes the Pittsburgh Steelers would be my favorite team but the fact is I bet against the Steelers as much as I go with them. I have made huge profits over the years going with and against my Pittsburgh Teams.

Think of it just as you would going to the doctor. You have your regular family doctor for normal things but if your having heart problems you go to a heart specialist right? So studying the teams in your backyard makes you a specialist and you should take advantage of your knowledge. So far in 2009 I'm perfect involving Pittsburgh teams. Cashed Both Steeler Playoff Games and perfect 3-0 with the Pitt Panthers including calling their only loss of the Season at Louisville.

One thing to be careful with in regards to handicapping your hometown team is don't get caught up in the local talk radio shows as they can really confuse you if you don't know how to decipher through what's pertinent and what's not.

Understand your teams chemistry know when they are looking ahead to something or know when they played their guts out leaving nothing in the tank for their next game. Make notes about previous meetings and if something unusual happened in the prior meeting.

These are little things that you will know that Vegas may not when they set these lines. Knowledge is Power and you should always know more about your hometown teams than Vegas does.
