Wigan vs Huddersfield KO time 8pm GMT.
The first game of the European Super League throws up an intriguing clash between the champions of 2013 Wigan Warriors and the Huddersfield Giants who finished top of the regular season standings. This game is being played one week earlier than the other opening round games as Wigan will be travelling to Australia to take on the Sydney Roosters in the World club challenge.
Last year the games were split in the regular season, with both clubs losing their home clashes [10-22 at Huddersfield and 12-30 at Wigan]. This trend continued in the post season as the Warriors dominated the Giants to claim a 8-22 victory. All three games went under the total.
There is a strong possibility of this being a classic look ahead spot for Wigan, with the coaching staff not wanting to give too much away with the big game coming up in Australia. The loss of key attacking play maker Sam Tomkins to the NRL and an injury keeping try scoring machine Josh Charnley out has reduced the Warriors' strike power. General rust the first few weeks of the season, and the poor weather can not be underestimated too. The Giants will have revenge in mind tonight and will want to spoil the party, with the kicking game of Danny Brough playing a key role in damp conditions.
I favour HUDDERSFIELD +6 and UNDER 37.5 [Pinnacle].
