Enjoy your posts Ziggy. Good insights my friend. Really appreciate your thoughts on these lyrics from the Loving Spoonful: "... believe in the magic of a young girls soul, believe in the magic of a rock n roll believe in the magic that could set you free." They were a fun band, but hearing some of their songs you realize they had some deep lyrics such as you point out.
I loved the theme song on Quantum Leap, although I didn't watch the show too much. The coolest science fiction show I watched when I was a kid in the 60's wasn't Twillight Zone or Star Trek, but The Outer Limits. Even though some of the monsters are dated nowadays (I remember watching the show in black-and-white), but a number of the episodes hold up well. They had some good actors, too, like Martin Landeau in episodes.
Another childhood memory was being invited to my first boy-girl birthday party when I was 12. I remember two songs that were played a lot on the birthday girl's record player - the Yardbirds "Heart Full of Soul" and the Monkees "I'm not your Stepping Stone." I still really like those songs a lot.
