"We're going to bring jobs back to the USA."
Huh?
This topic always makes me laugh and for good reason. I'll use the Latino vote and agriculture as an example. I've lived in California all my 63 years of life. Agriculture is one of our states most valuable and prosperous industries, and along with construction, service industries and some manufacturing, it's all serviced by the Latino labor force. Now I don't know specifically what percentage of that force are citizens, documented Latinos, Green card Latinos, and undocumented Latinos. I'm not sure anyone knows.
The point I want to make is with all the hubbub about immigration and illegal aliens entering and working in our country, I've never once heard of any employer complaining about the lower cost of labor they get from them. Never, never, never. These are industries that thrive on cheap labor. You're never going to see Whites, blacks, asians, arabs or whoever working for $8.00 an hour picking strawberries or assparagus. As it stands now, and is made perfectly clear by Trump's own offshore clothing manufacturers, it's ridiculously cheaper to employ offshore labor forces than to do the grunt work here in the USA. GE, Caterpillar, Ford, Walmart, and just about any company you can name either completely manufacturers offshore or uses parts from foreign labor. Building a 3,000 mile wall is a joke, it's a pipe dream that says, if we can keep out any undocumented person or family, America will be great again. No we won't. Our already low paid labor won't be able to put food on the table because the cost of living will rise and wages won't.
When was the last time a Fortune 500 company complained because they could manufacture offshore for half or a quarter of the price to manufacture here? Wall Street, investors, banks, industry all depend on foreign labor to show a profit so their stockholders will be happy and their stock value will continue to rise.
And regarding the wall keeping out Isis or any terrorist group, that's really the most ridiculous argument I've heard in a long time. If drug smugglers can bring billions of dollars of product to the USA, 10, 20, or 1000 terrorists can certainly get through too.
To conclude, I fully support immigration reform. I'll say it again REFORM, but to think a wall will do any good is a joke. For one, it will most likely be built by the very people we're trying to keep out.
