Edge – SD
Conclusion: The Rockies shocked me and the Padres last night byu putting up 9 runs in a 9-4, after dropped the first game on Thursday 3-0. They are still a miserable 12-39 on the road this season now sit 20 games out in the NL West. The Padres are only 6 games behind the ?Giants in the NL West.
Offensively, The Padres hold all the edges, and that’s before we even factor in that the Rockies average 1.5 runs less per game away from Coors.
As for the Bullpens, the Padres have one of the best units in baseball, while the Rockies have one of the worst.
As for the two starting pitchers, they are both pitching well.
German Marquez has started 21 games for the Rockies with 14 above average starts and just 7 below average ones. His WHIP and ERA are both solid, and his ERA metrics are consistent with his ERA. His wOBA and expected wOBA are both lower than league average, and Marquez is also generating a 52.1% GB rate, always a good thing when you pitch half of your games at Coors. His K rate
Yu Darvish has started 20 games for the Padres this season. He struggled some in his first start against the Diamondbacks, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and a walk over 4.2 shaky innings with 6 Ks, but then reeled off 9 straight above average starts before tossing his next below average one. Darvish’s 15/5 ratio of above average to below average starts is damned impressive. His WHIP, ERA and WOBA are all superb and his ERA metrics and expected wOBA are almost as good. Darvish’s K rate remains elite, but what stands out so far is the impressive 134/27 K/BB ratio from a guy that used to have control and command issues. Darvish is elite and that’s how he’s pitched. He is, however, one of those pitcher’s who’s been mentioned in conjunction with the “sticky n substance” allegations the MLB is cracking down on. Darvish had shown increased spin rate. How much the crackdown has affected his performance isn’t clear, but he hasn’t been quite as consistent since the crackdown, but very good!
Marques has very good numbers. But most of Darvish’s are better and when we factor in the much better pullpen and the usually weak Rackies’ offense on the road, I.m taking the Padres to vounce back tonight and get the W.
Pick – SD ML in a parlay with the Blue Jay ML (a winner)
