Webb (1-2) has started 5 games for the Giants, with 2 above average outings and 3 blow average ones. He has given up a total of 13 runs on 32 hits and 11 walks (43 baserunners) in just over 28 innings. I’d say that Webb’s been very fortunate to have only given up 13 runs. That certainly explains the high WHIP and ERA. Webb’s metrics are all lower than his ERA, probably because he gets a lot of GBs (51.8%) and doesn’t give up much hard contac. If Webbs keeps giving up hits and walk at this rate, he’ll give up runs. Webb, who was considered a top prospect, spent most of 2020 on the Covid IL, making just one start for the Giants last season.
Gray has started 6 games for the Rockies, with 3 above average outings and just 2 below average ones. His WHIP, ERA and WOBA are all good, and his ERA metrics and wxpected wOBA are all a little higher, hey still solid and consistent with his ERA and wOBA. The one concern is Gray’s 9.7% walk rate, which is the highest of his career. If he doen’t bring that down, he’ll pay a price.

The Giants have almost all the edges in the bullpen matchup.

On paper these two offenses kook pretty even, but this game’s at Coors, which should help both of them/
Edge – None
Conclusion: The two offenses are pretty even, but the Giants have the much better bullpen. As for the starting pitchers Gray appears to have most of the edges. The Giants are the better team here, but for 5 innings, I have more faith in Gray. I grabbed this one this morning before the line moved closer to pick ‘em.
