I will answer JD's question in several different ways.
First, what is the definition of "a" ?
It is a word that is abused by talking heads in all arenas of media, Politics, Sports, Entertainment.
Let's just use Sports as the example.
ESPN talking head: When referring to a SUPER STAR Quarterback in the NFL, they don't refer to them in the singular sense.
If you want a QB to lead your team down the field in the last two minutes, you want a guy like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Ben Roethlisberger. Proper sentence context !
NO ! ESPN has created their own bastardized version of the English language !
If you want a QB to lead your team down the field in the last two minutes, you want a guy like a Peyton Manning ,a Tom Brady or a Ben Roethlisberger.
" a Peyton Manning ,a Tom Brady or a Ben Roethlisberger."
Are there more than one of each of these guys? Shit ! I wish that were the case, because I would love to see one of them on the Raiders !
Is there an Alternate NFL Universe that we don't know about?
Ok, back to the firearms question.
Getting to Know Pregame: Do You Own a Gun?
There's that word "a" again ! Ok, in this case "a" would be applicable, because when describing a firearm, say a Springfield-Armory, saying I own a Springfield XD 45 ACP would be in the correct context. Because Springfield has more than one XD model. There is only one Peyton Manning !
So,
After my rant on proper English and context, sorry, my Mother was an English and Reading teacher for 30 + years, this was pounded and still is into my nugget. I do own a firearm, in fact I have more than one. I actually have a few. I keep people guessing about the number and I am very vague about the number of LEGALLY OWNED WEAPONS I have.
All my kids have been through NRA firearm safety courses, for small children I recommend Eddie Eagle Safety Programs
