Dortmund Preakness Stakes Odds Prediction

Saturday May 16th and it's time for the second leg of the Triple Crown, which is known as the Preakness Stakes. The Preakness Stakes official start time is 6:24 pm ET and will take place at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, Maryland. There are several Contenders in the event, including Dortmund, who has been installed as 7/2 Odds to win the Preakness.

Dortmund's Record: 6-0-1 in 7 Races. Trainer: Bob Baffert. Jockey: Martin Garcia . Sire: Big Brown. Dam: Our Josephina. Best Beyer Speed: 106

Dortmund is trained by Bob Baffert, who has 2,557 wins in his career and is 38th of 4319 trainers in wins in 2015 with 35. Bob was inducted to the Hall of fame in 2009 and has won most outstanding trainer (Eclipse Award) 3 times. Bob is off a Kentucky Derby Win with American Pharoah and he has won the Preakness 5 times in his career, with the last one coming in 2010 (Lookin at Lucky). He also has 3 Kentucky Derby wins with War Emblem in 2002, Real Quiet in 1998 and Silver Charm in 1997. Over all he has sent out 10 winners in Triple Crown races and another 10 in the Breeders Cup.

Riding Dortmund will be Martin Garcia, who comes in with 1314 career wins and is ranked 119th of 1149 jockeys this year in wins with 31. Martin began riding at the age of 14 and his biggest win was at the 2010 Preakness Stakes, while riding Looking at Lucky. That is his only career win in a Triple Crown race and he also has a win in the Breeder's Cup as well. He did finish 3rd at the Derby with Dortmund. He is the first call to ride for Bob Baffert.

Dortmund has very good speed and is a proven winner. Dortmund won the 2015 Santa Anita Derby, even though he stumbled out the gate a bit, and in his 6 wins in his career he has taken down many a derby contenders. He is a battler, but the question is will he have enough closing speed to take down American Pharoah. The 2nd slot is not a bad slot and I feel that this horse will give American Pharoah and Firing Line a very big challenge.

Movie The Preakness is Beatable and Bettable--Buy/Sell?
Teddy Covers and Steve Fezzik, professional bettors, discuss whether or not casual horse handicappers can win betting the Triple Crown races like the upcoming Preakness. Fezzik sees some value in betting the horse to horse individual match-ups, but doesn't think it is worth betting on the race as a whole. Teddy Covers takes some advice from Pregame's horse racing capper JR O'Donnell who pointed out that every time trainer Bob Baffret takes a Derby-winning horse to Preakness he wins, which is exactly what he is doing with his contender, the favorite American Pharoah.
