College Football Betting Odds TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Longhorns Free Pick

Thursday college football and we will see the TCU Horned Frogs take on the Texas Longhorns at the Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The game has a start time of 7:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on Fox Sports 1. Current Vegas odds have TCU listed as 7 point favorites, while the total is set at 55.

Analysis:  The TCU Horned Frogs come in with a 9-1 record on the year and are still very much in the thick of the race to reach the 4 team playoff at the end of the year. The Horned Frogs are also 6-1 in Big 12 play and that has them in a 3-way tie for first with Baylor and Kansas State. TCU is 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games following a bye week, but just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss. This is a very strong offensive squad that ranks 4th in total offense, 8th in passing, 29th in rushing and 2nd in scoring (45.9 ppg). The defense has been mostly solid for this team, ranking 54th in yards allowed, 101st vs the pass, 22nd vs the run and 35th in points allowed (23.1 ppg).

The Texas Longhorns did not have a good start to their year, but Charlie Strong is getting them together and they have now won 3 in a row and 4 of their last 5 games to get to bowl eligibility with a 6-5 record. Texas is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following a bye week, but just 6-13 ATS in their last 19 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a SU win of more than 20 points. The Texas offense has not been all that good this year, ranking 95th in total yards, 80th in passing, 78th in rushing and 98th in scoring (23.7 ppg). The Defense has been very solid for this team, ranking 28th in yards allowed, 14th vs the pass, 69th vs the run and 25th in points allowed (21 ppg).

Pick: Im am going to look at the Longhorns in this one. TCU has had the much better year, but Texas is playing very well right now and I feel that it would be huge for this team moving forward to pick up a win over a top 5 team in the nation. The Longhorns have won 4 of their last 5 games and While TCU has won their last 2 games on the road, they were vs West Virginia and Kansas and by just a combined 5 points. Not very impressive and I see it catching up with them here vs a Texas team that continues to improve by the week, especially defensively, as they have allowed just 12 ppg in their last 3 games, while TCU has allowed 26.7 ppg over the same stretch. Look for the outright upset here.
