Saturday College Football FAU Owls vs Wyoming Cowboys Free Pick

Week 4 college football and the Florida Atlantic Owls will travel to War Memorial Stadium in Larame, Wyoming to take on the Wyoming Cowboys. The game has a start time of 4:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the Mountain West Network. Current Vegas odds have the Cowboys listed as 4 point favorites, while the total is set at 47.

Analysis:  Facing Nebraska and Alabama on the road will have most steams start out the year at 0-2 and that’s just what happened to the owls and they were outscored 96-7 in the two games. Last week they took on a team more their size and walked away with a 50-21 win over Tulsa. FAU was outfirstdown by 6 in the game, but still outgained the Golden Hurricane by 155 yards in the game, piling up 518 yards, including 341 through the air in the contest. After throwing for just 61 Yards vs Nebraska, Jaquez Johnson had a big game, hitting 15 of 20 passes for 318 yards and 3 TDs on the day. Despite the big offensive day for the Owls, they still come in ranked 119th in total offense (287.7 ypg) and 113th in scoring (19 ppg), while on the defensive side of the ball they have struggled as well, ranking 127th in total defense (589 ypg) and 115th in points allowed (39 ppg). The numbers should really start to even out on both sides of the ball now that they will be playing their own level of competition.

The Wyoming Cowboys are off back to back losing seasons, which prompted the dismissal of head coach Dave Christensen after 5 years of service. In steps Craig Bohl, who won 3 straight FCS National Titles at North Dakota State. 16 starters are back for the Cowboys, but will it be enough to get them back to a bowl game. So far so good for the Cowboys as they are 2-1 on the year, with that loss being to Oregon last week. The Cowboys did lose the game by 34, but they also covered the huge 42 point spread, were only outgained by 117 yards and held a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. The Cowboys are not a good offensive team, but they did put up 439 yards vs the Ducks, including 284 yards through the air.  For the year, Wyoming is 100th in the nation in total offense (357.7 ypg) and 119th in scoring (16 ppg), while on the defensive side of the ball they are 74th in yards allowed (395.3) and 63rd in points allowed (24.3 ppg).

Pick: I will be going win the Under here. Wyoming played a higher scoring game last night, but that was due to the fact that they were facing the Oregon Ducks. The Wyoming offense is very bad and have yet to score more than 17 points in any game. Other than allowing 48 points to the Ducks, they have allowed just 13 and 12 points in their other two games and FAU is not really an offensive team. Yes they put up 50 points on Tulsa, but they have a sad defense, while the Cowboys do not. The FAU defense did struggle on the road vs Alabama and Nebraska, but that can be expected. Their defense will be solid this year and they do have 6 starters back from a group that allowed 22 ppg last year and they did allow just 20 points vs a decent Tulsa Offense. This is not even a good offense that they will face today. Both teams play a slow paced type of game and both have solid defenses, and that will keep the scoring in the upper 30s at best in this one.
