College Football Odds Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Virginia Tech Hokies Free Pick

Week 4 college football and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will travel to Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN. Current Vegas odds have the Hokies listed as 7.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 52.5.

Analysis:  The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets come in with a perfect 3-0 mark on the year, but it is vs a questionable schedule as they beat Tulane on the road, while winning at home vs Wofford and Georgia Southern. The Jackets have not really been all that impressive in their wins so far, failing to cover vs Wofford and Georgia Southern, while outgaining Tulane by just 32 yards in the 17 point win over them. Last week the Jackets were 15.5 point favorites vs Ga Southern, but they were in a dog fight all game and ended up winning by just 4 points, while outgaining them by just 8 yards in the contest. QB Justin Thomas had a nice game, throwing for 188 yards with 4 TD passes, while also leading the team in rushing with 137 yards and another TD. He is a true dual threat QB and leads an offense that is 47th in the nation in yards (467.7 ypg) and 38th in scoring (39.3 ppg). On the defensive side of the ball the Yellow Jackets are 72nd in yards allowed (393.7 ypg) and 73rd in points allowed (26 ppg).

What a strange couple of the weeks it has been for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Two weeks ago they went into Columbus, Ohio and pulled off a stunning 14 point win over the Buckeyes and then last week they came home to take on East Carolina and were stunned in the game by a final of 28-21. The Hokies just didn’t have an answer for East Carolina’s super QB Shane Carden, who threw for 427 yards in the contest. Overall the Hokies allowed 502 yards to the Pirates, after allowing just 327 yards of total offense the week before to an Ohio State Squad that rolled up 66 points vs Kent State this past week. The Hokies put up just 389 yards vs a suspect East Carolina defense and are now ranked just 85th in total offense (399 ypg) and 73rd in scoring (30 ppg). Defensively they have been solid overall, ranking 39th in total defense (340.7 ypg) and 36th in scoring defense (19.3 ppg).

Pick: Going with the Under in this one. Just can’t see a whole lot of points here. The Hokies had a bad first half last week vs the Pirates, but their defense settled down in the second half playing much better. The Hokies have also played very well on defense vs this Tech offense the last 7 years, holding them to just 17.4 ppg over that stretch while in the last two years they have held them to just 27 total points. The Hokies do not run an uptempo offense and that are not all that explosive on that side of the ball. They take their time getting down field. The Last two games in this series has out up just 27 and 37 points and I will call for no more than 45 in this one.
