Free College Football Pick Kansas Jayhawks vs Duke Blue Devils

Week 3 college football and the Kansas Jayhawks will travel to Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, North Carolina to take on the Duke Blue Devils. The game has a start time of 3:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised locally. Current Vegas odds have the Blue Devils listed as 14 point favorites, while the total is set at 55.

Analysis:  The Kansas Jayhawks had themselves a rough 3-9 year in 2013, but that was still as many wins as they had the previous two years combined. This year Charlie Weis may have his best team yet, but there are still concerns with depth, as just 32 lettermen return. Kansas played their first game of the season and while they won vs SE Missouri State, it wasn’t easy as they won the game by just 6 points. The Jayhawks were 24 point favorites in the game and outgained SEMO by just 36 yards. Offensively the Jayhawks were solid as they put up 457 yards of total offense, including 261 yards on the ground. Montell Cozart hit just 12 of 24 passes for 196 yards, but also had 3 TD passes to zero INTs. De’Andre Mann led the ground attack with 121 yards on 15 carries (8.1 ypc). The defense struggled in the game as they allowed 421 yards of offense, including 297 yards through the air and at 10.6 yards per attempt. The game was also a penalty fest as the teams combined for 24 penalties for 254 yards. No discipline on either side.

The Duke blue Devils have started the year at 2-0 after routing Troy 34-17 last week. That was on the heels of them beating Elon 52-13. In the win over Troy, Duke had 452 yards of offense, including 270 yards through the air. Anthony Boone had a solid game hitting 27 of 41 passes for 268 yards and a TD, while also leading the team in rushing with 47 yards and 2 TDs. For the year Boone has thrown for 515 yards and 5 TDs with zero INTs. The defense was solid vs Troy, as they allowed 396 yards and while they did allow 158 yards on the ground, they also allowed just 3.7 ypc.  Overall this year the Blue Devils come in 29th in total offense (509.5 ypg) and 26th in scoring (43 ppg), while on the defensive side of the ball they rank 64th in yards allowed (362 ypg) and 27th in points allowed.

Pick:  Gonna look to the Over in this one. The Jayhawks are a ground based offense, but still they have a solid offense overall that is capable of putting up plenty of points. The problem for this team will come on the defensive side of that and that is not good vs a strong Duke offense that has averaged 43 ppg through 2 games thus far. This game should just squeak over 60 points.
