The Wisconsin Badgers will take on the Kentucky Wildcats tonight in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. The game is scheduled for an 8:49 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TBS. Currently the odds for the game have Kentucky set as the favorites to reach the national title game.
Despite being a staple in college basketball success, the Wisconsin Badgers have not reached the Final Four under Bo Ryan. That is, until this season as the Badgers knocked off the top-seeded Arizona Wildcats to reach Dallas. Kentucky enters this game having been to the Final Four under John Calipari, but never have the Wildcats gotten to this point as an eighth-seed.
There's been all kinds of talk about mis-seeding in this tournament, but Kentucky is playing some great basketball right now, regardless of what seed they should have been. The Wildcats knocked off Michigan in the Elite Eight on a deep triple from Aaron Harrison sealed the Wolverines' fate. Kentucky dominated the glass in that game, out-rebounding Michigan 35-24 and really hurting the Wolverines on the offensive glass, where they collected 17 boards.
Rebounding that way against Wisconsin probably won't be as easy, but if the Wildcats are able to do it, they'll be playing for the national championship. Julius Randle is probably the best player on the floor for this game. His size and athletic ability are going to be a lot to handle for the Badgers, but Frank Kaminsky seems like he is up for the task. The Wildcats lost three times to Florida this season and battled some immaturity issues at times this year, but have grown up in the NCAA Tournament.
There's no doubting the talent of Kentucky. Wisconsin, on the other hand, has been winning with grit and doing the little things necessary to reach this point in the tournament. This should be a battle between two very good teams. Wisconsin has knocked off American, Oregon, Baylor and Arizona to get here. Kentucky has beaten Kansas State, Wichita State, Louisville and Michigan to get here — three of those teams played in last season's Final Four.
The overall talent of Kentucky might be too much for Wisconsin in this one. With the Harrison brothers primed to be successful after a solid tournament to date, we think they match up well with the Badgers. If Wisconsin cannot rebound against Kentucky much like Michigan didn't, we expect this one to be a somewhat comfortable win for the Wildcats.
They're still freshmen technically, but the Wildcats have grown up this season and we think they get a big win tonight.
