I remember having a baseball conversation with Lem Banker, a long-time Las Vegas betting legend. He compared betting baseball to walking across Sahara. He wasn't talking about the Blvd in Las Vegas, but the African desert.
I haven't navigated it very well the past two years losing each of the past two seasons. I'm highly motivated to end that streak this year. Hard work and knowing the players aren't the problem. I won my National League Rotisserie League in 2015 and my American League Rotisserie League in 2016.
Unlike other sports, baseball doesn't lend itself to situational handicapping. Managing doesn't play a big part either. I think the key is finding the right blend of statistics, new age metrics and old fashion feel from knowing the players - especially the pitchers - to stay on top of developing hot and cold streaks. There are windows of opportunity, but they often don't stay open long. A team can only stick with an Alfredo Simon for so long before he's out of the starting rotation.
Baseball can be beaten, but it takes patience, good money management and picking the right spots. This site has some really good baseball people:
I tip my hat to Dave Cokin, a real baseball maven. Essler and Goodfella have compiled records that speak for themselves. Shaker is going to provide consistent strong totals plays. Spartan knows his stuff especially when it comes to the Midwest. Iskoe has a good opinion. So does SleepyJ. Fezzik is going to find ways of making money like he always does as an ace advantage player. My apologies for leaving others out, but I'm just not that familiar with their baseball.
What you want to avoid are charlatans who promote winning records, but in reality are actually down units. These kind just put out big chalk. So they may go 7-3, but they've lost money.
Sometimes there is value to a big favorite. But that's extremely rare. Most successful baseball bettors go the underdog, short favorite, totals route. Protecting the bankroll is paramount.
I wish everyone a successful baseball season. My door always is open if you ever have a question, comment or want to get on board. You can find my picks and packages here: pregame.com/.../bettor.aspx.
