Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs continue on Wednesday night and I will have a free pick in Game 6 between the Brooklyn Nets and the Atlanta Hawks, which will take place at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on TNT. Current Vegas betting odds have the Hawks listed as 9 point favorites, while the total is set at 200.
Analysis: The Brooklyn Nets did get into the playoffs on the last day of the regular season and have really played hard in their matchup vs top ranked Atlanta. The Nets have not played like an 8 seed as they covered both games in Atlanta and then came home and won both games. Now they go back to Atlanta for game 5 and the Nets have gone just 19-24 on the road this year. The Nets have gone 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games playing on 1 days rest, but just 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game. Brooklyn averaged 96.8 ppg on 45.3% shooting overall and 32.7% shooting from long range on the road this year. Defensively they have allowed 100.3 ppg on 45.8% shooting overall and 35.7% shooting from long range on the road.
The Atlanta Hawks are the top seed in the East but but are not playing like one as they are now tied 2-2 in this series and have failed to cover all 4 games thus far after going 50-30-2 ATS during the regular season. Atlanta has gone 37-6 at home for the year. Atlanta is just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game and 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the Eastern Conference. The Hawks scored 103.3 ppg on 47.3% shooting overall and 38.1% shooting from long range at home this year. Defensively they allowed 94.8 ppg on 44.1% shooting overall and 33% shooting from long range at home for the year.
Pick: I will be going with the Under in this game. This series is now tied at 2 games apiece and the deeper you get into a series the more the teams seem to play a bit more conservative. This has been a low scoring series anyway, with the exception of the last game. The first 3 in the series put up just 184 ppg. The Hawks play great defense at home and the Nets can't score on the road, while the Hawks offense has been stuck in neutral for most this series by an Nets team that has played well of late. Hard to see this one hitting the upper 190s, let alone the 200s.
