Analysis: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have gotten off to a very nice start this year as they currently have a 15-2 record, that includes a 71-70 road win over North Carolina last week. They had a chance to show they are for real in a home game vs the Cavaliers on Saturday, but Virginia was able to outlast them in the 62-56 win. The Irish are 2-1 in the ACC. Notre Dame is 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 vs. Atlantic Coast. The Irish have been a very good offensive squad this year, ranking 9th in scoring (83.3 ppg), 1st in shooting (53.5%), 9th in 3 point shooting (40.7%) and 77th in FT shooting (71.8%). The defense for this team has been solid, ranking 98th in points allowed (62.4 ppg), 80th in defensive FG% (39.9%) and 151st in 3 point defense (32.8%).
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have lost 3 games in a row come, which drops their record to 9-6 on the year, including 0-3 in the ACC. Their recent slide started with an 83-76 OT loss at Notre Dame. Now they look for a little payback. Georgia Tech is 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the ACC, but just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Pick: I will look at the Under in this one. The Irish are a team that has played fast this year and they have been a good offensive team, but they will be missing one of of their better players in Zach Auguste, who has been suspended. Zach is second on the team in scoring (14.3 ppg) and leads the team in shooting (65.3%). That is a big blow to the Irish offense and it may mean that they have to start playing a bit slower as well. That works out well for the Yellow Jackets, who like to play slow, especially at home where their games have averaged 122 ppg on the year. Georgia Tech has averaged just 61 ppg (Regulation Only) in their last 6 games overall, while at home this year they have allowed just 58.1 ppg. The first meeting between these teams put up 159 points, but just 118 in regulation. This one should be played in the lower 120s.
