Texas may not be playing in the bowl it had hoped, but it will play in one regardless. The Longhorns are slated to face the PAC-12’s Oregon State Beavers in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Saturday, December 29th at the Alamodone in San Antonio, Texas; the game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, is scheduled to get underway at 6:45pm ET. Texas opened the season No. 15 in the AP Poll, but it will square off against Oregon State later this month as unranked Associated Press team. The Longhorns are 23rd in the BCS Standings, but either way, they are a far cry from where they wanted or expected to end up at this juncture.
Despite back to back losses to close out the season, Texas does have an opportunity to reach nine wins with a victory against Oregon State. However, most do not expect that to happen, and for good reason.
The Longhorns did win four consecutive games late in the season against decent competition (Baylor, Kansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State), but the aforementioned season ending losses to TCU and Kansas State were not pretty as they were out-scored 62-37.
Oregon State did not finish with a flurry either (3-3 last six games), but the Beavers, who improved to 9-3 after a 77-3 season finale win against FCS school Nicholls State, beat a number of tough opponents, including Wisconsin, UCLA, BYU, and Arizona State.
