The second round of the 2013 US Open is scheduled to take place today, Friday, with the hopes of the weather staying away. The Updated 2013 US Open Odds have Phil MIckelson favored, along with Adam Scott, both drawing 11/2 odds courtesy of the Las Vegas Hotel (formerly Hilton). The first round wasn't completed on Thursday and should be finalized on Friday morning before the second round begins. There are several golfers still within striking distance.
Obviously the course is going to determine the score this weekend. If the course can hold the massive amount of water that was dumped on it over the past few days it should be pretty receptive. Several players are still on the course looking to continue their first rounds, including Luke Donald, the leader, at 4-under par through his first 15 holes before the delay. Mickelson ended his first round at 3-under par and is the leader in the clubhouse heading into the second round, which should get underway at some point Thursday afternoon.
Only Mickelson and Scott have odds better than 7/1 to win the tournament, which Donald currently sits at to win. He's leading the tournament prior to Thursday's play and the LVH has the three of them listed at better than 10/1 odds to win — the only three listed in that category. Tiger Woods is currently at 12/1 to win the tournament and was the favorite prior to the Open officially getting underway on Thursday.
Obviously these odds will change as the second rounds are completed on Friday and we hit the weekend. Who will be the odds-on favorite to win the tournament after Friday's play? Make sure to check back here Saturday morning for updated odds on the remainder of the tournament.
US Open at Merion Facts — This will be the fifth U.S. Open played at Merion's East Course, which opened in 1912. The past champions are: Olin Dutra in 1934, Ben Hogan in 1950, Lee Trevino in 1971, and David Graham in 1981. The course has also hosted the U.S. Amateur six times: Bobby Jones won at Merion in 1924 and 1930, the latter completed his grand slam. He also competed here in his and Merion's first U.S. Amateur in 1916; Jones was a quarterfinalist at age 14 and the champion was Chick Evans, who also won the U.S. Open in 1916, the first to win both titles in the same year.
