The UFC returns to the FX Network tonight for the sixth time with a 10 fight card from the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia (9:00pm ET start time). Head lining this evening’s MMA event are lightweights George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson. The latest UFC on FX Fight Predictions and Odds have the main event scrap listed as a -115 moneyline pick’em ($115 to win $100).
George Sotiropoulos’ (14-4) UFC tenure started with a bang as he secured a first round submission victory over Billy Miles at the Ultimate Fighter 6 finale in December of 2007. The Victoria, Australia native went on to win his next six fights, a string of victories which he capped off with a submission against the always tough Joe Lauzon.
The win over Lauzon had Sotiropoulos knocking on the door of a lightweight title shot, but his star has since faded thanks to back to back losses to Dennis Siver and Rafael dos Anjos.
Sotiropoulos’ quest to return to relevancy in, perhaps, the UFC’s most stacked division begins tonight against the scrappy Ross Pearson.
Pearson finds himself in similar circumstances as he too is looking to bounce back from a difficult stretch. The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 winner began his UFC career with three straight wins, but he has since gone 2-3 with losses to Cole Miller, Edson Barboza, and Cub Swanson.
What’s worse for Pearson is two of those losses did not reach a decision with the Tyne and Wear, England native falling by submission to Miller and TKO to Swanson.
