The New York Yankees open a 10 game home stand this evening by welcoming the Toronto Blue Jays to the Bronx. Start time in tonight’s series opener is set for 7:05pm ET at Yankee Stadium; the game will be broadcast live on the MLB Network. The latest MLB Odds have New York listed as a -150 moneyline favorite ($150 wins $100) and the Over/Under set at eight runs (Under is favored at -125 odds). Toronto is drawing +135 odds to garner its 10^th win of the season.

 

New York opened its recent six game road swing with back to back wins over the Blue Jays in Toronto, but it concluded the set on a 1-3 run, falling to once to the Jays and twice to the Rays.

 

The Yankees, now 11-9 overall and two games behind the AL East leading Red Sox, will look to get things back on track tonight with 38 year old hurler Hiroki Kuroda on the hill. Kuroda, who hails from Osaka, Japan, is 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA in four starts this season and the Yankees have benefited from his efforts, going 3-0 in his last three outings (21.2 innings pitched, 13 hits, four earned runs, 19 strikeouts).

 

The Blue Jays, who have been a disappointment thus far, enter tonight’s game off a 1-2 series loss at Baltimore; they narrowly avoided the sweep at the hands of the O’s last night, escaping Camden Yards with a 6-5 extra innings victory.

 

Toronto, which owns the league’s 27^th ranked pitching staff (97 earned runs allowed), will attempt to secure a rare game one win this evening (2-5 in seven series openers) by giving the ball to veteran lefty Mark Buehrle.

 

Buehrle has been miserable in his return to the American League, posting a 5.87 ERA in four starts, but the Jays are 3-1 with him on the hill. The 13 year vet, who is 1-8 in 13 career starts opposite the Yankees, has performed reasonably well in his last two appearances, though, allowing four earned runs while striking out 10 over 13.1 innings.
