Tiger Woods 2012 British Open Odds

With the start of the 141st British Open less than two days away, the sporting world has turned its attention to golf’s most recognizable face, Tiger Woods. While pundits debate whether or not Woods can capture his 15th major championship this weekend, odds makers at TheGreek.com have the former world’s No. 1 and current PGA Tour money list leader set as a +715 favorite ($100 to win $715) to win his fourth Claret Jug. Other Tiger Woods 2012 British Open odds at the offshore book have Woods listed at +145 moneyline odds to finish in the top five at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Course and -135 odds ($135 to win $100) to finish ahead of Rory McIlroy.

Tiger Woods has yet to return to his pre-scandal form, but his performance through 12 PGA tournaments this season would indicate he is drawing ever closer to it. Woods has three wins this season, including the Memorial Tournament and AT&T National, and four top five finishes, helping him top the PGA Tour’s Money List with a total of $4,220,398.

Woods, however, has not been at his best in the year’s first two majors, placing a distant 40th at the Masters with a five over par 293 and 21st at the U.S. Open after recording 148 strokes over the final two days of play. Nor has Woods been a dominant presence at the Open Championship since winning his third Claret Jug back in 2006.

Tiger, who did not participate in the 2008 or 2011 British Opens, tied for 12th at the event in 2006, missed the cut in 2009, and finished 23rd in 2010. His two previous turns at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Course were not overly impressive either. Woods tied for 22nd as a low amateur when the course hosted the 1996 Open Championship and he tied for 25th when the event returned to St. Annes in 2001.

Royal Lytham, which features over 200 bunkers, will play at 7,086 yards. Par for this week’s major is set at 70.
