Thursday Night NFL Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Thursday night NFL
action emanates from San Diego, California this week as AFC West rivals Kansas City and San Diego butt at heads at Qualcomm Stadium. Start time in tonight’s game, which will be broadcast live on the NFL Network, is scheduled for 8:20pm ET. Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers Odds are favoring the host squad at -7.5 against the spread; tonight’s game total is set at 42.5 points.

Kansas City enters tonight’s game as one of the more disappointing teams in the league, having recorded just one win in its first seven games. Many felt the Chiefs had enough overall talent to contend for an AFC West title, but the only thing this team has an opportunity to win at this juncture is the first overall pick in next year’s draft.

The Chiefs, who have not lead a single minute in regulation play this season, rank 28th in points per game (17.1), 29th in points per game allowed (29.9), and dead last in turnover margin (-18). So, in other words, Kansas City is inept at finding the end zone, great at ushering other teams to it, and absolutely magnificent at giving the ball back to its opposition.

Given those numbers, the Chiefs may be exactly what the ailing Chargers need. San Diego started the season in fine fashion, winning three of its first four games, but it has looked Chief-like over the last four weeks.

The beleaguered Norv Turner has watched his team drop three straight games, losing to the Saints (31-24), Broncos (35-24), and Browns (7-6) to fall to 3-4 overall. Philip Rivers has taken the brunt of the criticism for San Diego’s recent collapse as many are beginning to question both his judgment and arm strength.

Rivers has completed just 57 percent of his passes over the last two games while tossing two touchdowns to four interceptions. His career numbers opposite Kansas City suggest a bounce back could be in order, though. Rivers is 10-4 with a modest 86 passer rating in 14 career appearances against the Chiefs.

San Diego has won eight of the last 10 in this series and it is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between the two teams at Qualcomm Stadium, beating the Chiefs by an average of 13.8 points per game.

Free Pick: Take San Diego -7.5.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers NFL Odds:

Kansas City Chiefs +7.5 (-110), Over 42.5 (-110), +260 (Moneyline)

San Diego Chargers -7.5 (-110), Under 42.5 (-110), -320 (Moneyline)
