The Vegas Report: Bengals Cash for Public and Wiseguys

Nevada bookmaker Chris Andrews from the  Cal Neva family of sportsbooks (35 locations throughout Nevada) and each and every week will break down what happened in the betting world for the Pregame community. Even though Sunday Night Football was yet another prime-time loser for the sportsbooks, Chris informed me his team did their best to stay ahead of the game, "We stayed ahead of the Packer game all week, even though Nick (Bogdanovich) and I both liked the Falcons.  Sunday night with a real strong public team can get out of hand easily, and we did our best to prevent that.  So the Packer game was bad, but it could have been much worse."

Weekend Football Recap:

There weren't too many good college games (same as we reported in The Offshore Report for this weekend), but the best was Georgia Tech failing to cover vs. Maryland.  In the pros, wiseguys and the public were all over the Eagles.  The Bills victory was the best of the day. All kinds of bad college results, but the worst was LSU over Florida.  The worst NFL result was the Bengals over the Jaguars.  Very little business at all on the Jags, tons of wiseguys and public on Cincinnati

"The best example of how bad the colleges were was a ticket I was shown first thing Sunday morning.  A guy hit a 10-teamer.  He laid a total of 194 points in his parlay.  All the big favorites, all the major teams.  Not only did he win, he barely had to sweat.  When that happens, there isn't a thing you can do.  Just ride out the storm.
Favorites have been covering at an unbelievable clip in the colleges.  Not all the favorites, but all the big teams: Alabama. LSU, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Stanford, Oregon, Boise.  The pros have been a little better, but the totals are killing us.  All overs, which the public loves."
Early NFL moves:
*Been relatively quiet.  We opened the Saints -5.5 over Tampa and we're now down to 4.5.  All the rest have been half points here and there.

Early College Football moves:
*In college, I would describe it as lots of "minor moves."  A few of the bigger ones are Florida State opened -11.0 over Duke, but is now up to -13.0.  South Carolina (*just announced South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia has been dismissed and line is off the team) opened 5.5 over Miss St now down to 3.5. Cincinnati opened -14.0 over Louisville and is now up to -17.0.  South Florida opened -6.0 over UConn now up to -8.0.

Who is Chris Andrews? Worked at the Stardust and Barbary Coast sportsbooks and in 1981 went to manage Cal Neva (eventually becoming a partner at Cal Neva in 1991).  Left Cal Neva in 2003 to go to Golden Nugget in Las Vegas after his cousin bought the property (otherwise he would have have never left Cal Neva).  In 2005 after the sale of the Golden Nugget he went to work at Leroys.  In 2008 Chris left Leroys and formed Sierra Nevada Wealth Management (Registered Investment Advisor) in 2008.  He is now back at Cal Neva working directly with legendary bookmaker Nick Bogdanovich. Cal Neva has 35 locations throughout Nevada, including the Las Vegas strip, Henderson, Mesquite, Reno, Sparks, Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Jackpot, and Gardnerville. You can catch Chris on ESPN945.com and follow him on twitter at @andrewssports.
