Sunday Night Baseball Los Angeles Angels vs Atlanta Braves

Sunday night baseball and we will see the Los Angeles Angels take on the Atlanta Braves in game 2 of their 3 game series from Turner Field in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on FOX.

Current Odds

Los Angeles        +123
Atlanta                -133

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -115

Analysis:  The Los Angeles Angels come in at 37-30 on the year and have won 7 of their last 9 games. The Halos are still 3.5 games behind the A's in the AL West, but the gap is closing. The Angels come in ranked 3rd in the league in scoring (4.73 rpg), 10th in hitting (.257) and 8th in homers (69). The pitching for the Halos has been decent, as they come in ranked 16th in the league in ERA (3.84), 9th in WHIP (1.25) and 5th in Ks (571). Hector Santiago gets the ball for the Angels tonight and he has had a rough year so far, going 0-6 with a 4.15 ERA overall, including 0-3 with a 4.80 ERA on the road. Hector has never faced the Braves.

The Atlanta Braves are not playing their best ball right now, as they come in having won just 7 of their last 18 games. Even with losing last night they are still tied with the Nationals for first in the NL East, who lost last night as well.  The Braves have really struggled at the plate this year, as they come in ranked 28th in scoring (3.63 rpg), 23rd in hitting (.243) and 10th in homers (67). The Pitching has been the thing that has kept this team afloat this year, as they come in ranked 5th in ERA (3.35), 10th in WHIP (1.25) and 1st in quality starts (47). The Braves will be sending out Mike Minor, who is 2-4 with a 4.31 ERA on the year overall, including 1-4 with a 4.15 ERA at home. Mike has never faced the Angels and is just 2-6 with a 3.24 ERA in 11 interleague starts in his career.

Pick:  Going with the Halos once again here. I know that Hector Santiago has yet to win a game this year, but this is the perfect time for that to happen. The Braves are not playing very good ball right now and they will send out Mike Minor, who also has struggled, especially at home, where he is 1-4 with a 4.15 ERA on the year and he is just 2-6 in 11 career starts in interleague play. Interleague play doesn't faze the Angels at all, as they are 44-20 in their last 64 games vs the NL, and 21-7 in their last 28 games vs the NL West. The Braves are just 1-7 in their last 8 IL games and just 4-10 in Minor's last 14 starts. Look for the Angels to take another one here.
