Woods had an up and down day overall on Thursday, but had a solid round anyway. He is currently in an 8-way tie for sixth place after the opening round of the 2012 British Open with his score of 3-under par, which was good for a 67 on the score card. Tied with Woods in that spot are Graeme McDowell, Bubba Watson, the Big Easy Ernie Els, Peter Hanson, fellow American Steve Stricker, Rory McIlroy and Japan's Toshinori Muto.

Woods made the course look relatively easy at times, but was happy overall with a 67 in his first round. He shot 30 on the front nine. There are a total of 36 players overall who finished the first round under par on the day, which was a big surprise to many around the game of golf. However, the conditions proved to be not as terrible as most thought. Typically, British Opens are marred by wind, rain and the inevitable high scores. "It was kind of weird standing out there on about the ninth tee box looking around in shirtsleeves at guys being 4, 5 and 6 under par," McDowell said after his round. "It was a pretty benign start to the week." McDowell played well at times as well.
