The Mississippi State Bulldogs host the LSU Tigers in SEC Football play Saturday night. The game is scheduled for a 9:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the college football odds for the game have the Tigers favored to pick up the win on the road.

SEC Football certainly is king of the college game,  it’s nice to see an early season matchup between two great teams. Both LSU and Mississippi State have been to the top of the proverbial mountain in the past decade, the Bulldogs becoming the first school to be ranked No. 1 in the inaugural College Football Playoff poll last year. The Bulldogs weren’t able to hold up that edge and weren’t able to make the playoff.

Mississippi State upset LSU last year and Dak Prescott had a big game with three total touchdowns and better than 370 yards of total offense. Prescott was a potential Heisman candidate at the beginning of November last year, but the Bulldogs wound up losing two of their last three games overall and lost in the Orange Bowl to Georgia Tech as well.

LSU would like to get some revenge from last year’s loss, their first in 15 years to the Bulldogs. The Tigers could be a bit rusty in this game as they weren’t able to get the warmup game last week, the contest with McNeese State was canceled because of weather.  Then again, Mississippi State didn’t look great in their opening game for what it’s worth.  The Bulldogs beat Southern Miss 34-16 but the Golden Eagles trailed just 14-10 at halftime.

Prescott will once again be the focal point for the Bulldogs, LSU’s defense will look to try and slow him down.

With LSU not playing last week and the Tigers aiming to slow down Prescott, this could be a lower-scoring affair. The total is rising up a bit, but this game should be played in the low-20s.
