The Baylor Bears welcome the Sun Belt's Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks to Waco this afternoon as the two schools prepare for a showdown at Floyd Casey Stadium. Baylor has been nothing short of incredible in its first two games, thrashing Wofford 69-3 and Buffalo 70-13. Of course, neither of those two will turn heads, but anytime a team can score 139 points, rack up 64 first downs, and post 1473 yards in two games it is impressive.
Louisiana-Monroe would seemingly represent a step up in competition for the Bears after its 21-19 win over Wake Forest last week; however, the Warhawks 34-0 season opening loss at Oklahoma should give pause to those wanting to back ULM against the Bears.
Certainly the 31 point line leaves a wonderful opportunity for Kolton Browning and company to sneak in the back door, but that is assuming they make it to the back yard. The Bears first two outings provide plenty of evidence that Art Briles is not one to take his foot off the gas. And with a week off and conference play looming, Briles will want his starters to see plenty of action against the Warhawks.
Louisiana-Monroe will put some points on the board today; it demonstrated that in last year's meeting with Baylor (42-47), but the 2013 Bears team could be Briles best yet. Also, with this year's game in Waco, ULM's offense figures to struggle more than it did when these two butted heads in Monroe last September.
Trends to Consider: The Bears are 9-1 both straight up and against the spread in their last 10 games as a home favorite (the Over was 9-1 in those same 10 games).
