Texas Tech will look to rides its high into Fort Worth today as it prepares to battle an old adversary in TCU. Start time in today’s meeting between the two former Southwest Conference rivals is scheduled for 3:30pm ET at Amon G. Carter Stadium; the game will be broadcast live on ABC. Saturday College Football Odds are favoring the visiting Red Raiders at -2.5 against the spread. This afternoon’s game total is set at 55 points.
Despite its 4-1 start, Texas Tech was flying under the radar until last weekend’s meeting with the previously undefeated West Virginia Mountaineers. The Red Raiders showed up as more than a blip after destroying Geno Smith and company 49-14 in Lubbock. Texas Tech, previously un-ranked, jumped to 18th in the AP Poll and debuted at 17 in the BCS rankings as a result of the dominant win.
The Red Raiders earned respect from the odds makers as well as this week’s line opened with them as a 2.5 point road favorite against a team that has lost just two times in its last 18 home games.
Admittedly, TCU is not the same team this year as it was last year or each of the three seasons before that; however, its does own a 5-1 record and its lone loss came after the suspension of its starting quarterback.
So, while the post-Casey Pachall ear started with a 37-23 home loss to a tough Iowa State team, the Horned Frogs should do better as freshman quarterback Trevone Boykin grows more accustomed to his new lead role.
Boykin certainly showed some progression last weekend, albeit against a lousy Baylor defense, as he completed 22-of-30 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns. Boykin also rushed 16 times for 56 yards and one score.
