Analysis: The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have had a nice season so far, as they check in at 5-2 on the year, but they are also just 1-2 in their first year in the Big 10 so far. The Knights really got a taste of Big 10 football in their last game, which was a 56-17 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Rutgers is 7-0 ATS as dogs in the 2nd of BB road games, but they are also just 1-5 ATS in their last 5 games in October. The Knights have been a rather average offensive squad that comes in ranked 66th in total offense, 48th in passing, 74th in rushing and 82nd in scoring (27.7 ppg). On defense the Knights have struggled somewhat, ranking 84th in yards allowed, 101st vs the pass, 68th vs the run and 66th in points allowed (26.6 ppg).
Nebraska enters this game with a 6-1 record, which includes a 4-0 mark at home. The Cornhuskers are off a 38-17 win at Northwestern and they are now 2-1 in the BIG 10, one game behind Minnesota in the Big 10 West. Nebraska is 6-1 ATS overall this year and they are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in October, but they are also 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 games off a SU win of 20+ points. Nebraska has been a very strong offensive squad this year, ranking 14th in total yards, 71st in passing, 7th in rushing and 13th in scoring (41 ppg). On the defensive side of the ball they have been very solid, ranking 28th in yards allowed, 49th vs the pass, 27th vs the run and 18th in points allowed, giving up just 19.9 ppg.
Pick: Gonna go with Nebraska in this one, even though the line has risen a bit. Nebraska needs some bit blow out wins and should get ne vs a Rutgers team that is off a 56-17 pasting at Ohio State and that is still trying to find it’ way around the Big 10. Gary Nova has been very inconsistent this year and is the kind of stationary QB that the Nebraska defense can beat up on. On defense the Knights have had their problems this year, especially on the road and Nebraska has been a very good offensive team at home. Just don’t see the Knights keeping this one within the number.
