Big East rivals Pittsburgh and South Florida will close out their respective regular season schedules tonight when they collide at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida (7:00pm ET start time, ESPN2). South Florida’s season has been an utter disappointment with the team posting a 3-8 overall record and a 1-5 league record in a year many thought it would win a watered down Big East.
The Bulls shoddy performance has placed Head Coach Skip Holtz on the hot seat, but the team may be able to save his job with a solid showing in tonight’s home/regular season finale. That may be all the team, which won its last home game 13-6 over Connecticut, has to play for, though, as it eliminated itself from bowl contention long ago.
Conversely, the 5-6 Panthers can earn a bowl berth tonight with win over the Bulls. In spite of USF’s struggles and what is at stake for Paul Chryst’s squad, Pittsburgh is anything but a lock this evening.
The Panthers have been a poor road team, registering a 1-4 record in five away outings this season. Pittsburgh also dropped its most recent away game, losing 24-17 at Connecticut.
Everything points toward a Pittsburgh win; however, it is difficult to lay the points on the Panthers here given their road woes.
