No one will mistake Indiana for a conference champion anytime soon, but the Hoosiers are still in the mix for a bowl bid when they take on Penn State later today. Start time in this Big Ten Leaders Division clash is set for 12:00pm ET at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania; the game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Indiana’s season started with some promise as it jumped out to a 2-0 start after dispatching FCS cupcakes Indiana State and Massachusetts, but a subsequent 0-5 stretch pointed toward another dismal season for Kevin Wilson’s squad.

The Hoosiers, who were competitive in a number of those five setbacks, rebounded, though, by knocking off Illinois and Iowa in back to back weeks. The two wins setup the possibility of a bowl appearance for Indiana that still exits, but seems unlikely after last weekend’s ugly 62-14 home loss to Wisconsin.

Now the Hoosiers need road wins over Penn State and Purdue to secure a postseason bid. The prospects of Indiana pulling that off are not good, even with the Nittany Lions slipping a bit of late (lost two of their last three games).

Penn State is 6-4 overall and they do have two home losses, but it has taken care of business against the league’s middling to lower level teams. The Nittany Lions lost conference games to Ohio State and Nebraska, but they topped Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, and Purdue by an average of 22 points per game.
