The San Jose State Spartans and Stanford Cardinal close out Week 2 college football action when they butt heads at Stanford Stadium later tonight. Kickoff in this evening's college football nightcap is set for 11:00pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network. College Football Point Spreads from 5Dimes have Stanford listed as a -24.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 49.5 points.
When these two teams hooked in last year's season opener the Cardinal walked away with a narrow 20-17 victory. Everyone thought Stanford was suffering from a serious Andrew Luck hangover, but it turned out there was nothing wrong with Brian Shaw's squad, it just ran into a tough-as-nails San Jose State team.
The Spartans went on to prove just how good they were as they finished the year with an 11-2 record and 29-20 Military Bowl win over Bowling Green.
San Jose State may find it more difficult to surprise the Cardinal tonight and it might not be as well equipped to do so either. The Spartans lost nine starters, including six on the defensive side of the ball, and their head coach, Mike MacIntyre, left to take over the Colorado program.
Filling MacIntyre's shoes is former University of San Diego head coach Ron Caragher. Caragher guided the Toreros to a 44-22 record during his six years on the job.
The Spartans, who knocked off Sacramento State 24-0 in last week's opener, will face a Stanford team that returns 14 starters and 59 lettermen from last year's 12-2, Rose Bowl winning squad. They will also encounter a fresh Cardinal bunch, who are set to make their season debut.
Despite last year's result, the odds makers are expecting a Cardinal route tonight. With a road game at Army next up for Stanford, San Jose State should have the Cardinal's full attention and, perhaps, angst as Shaw, no doubt, reminded them of last season's nail biter.
San Jose State vs Stanford College Football Point Spreads Week 2:
San Jose State Spartans +24.5 (-110), Over 49.5 (-110), +1450 (Moneyline)
Stanford Cardinal -24.5 (-110), Under 49.5 (-110), -2750 (Moneyline)
