Preakness Stakes Contenders Dynamic Impact

The Preakness Stakes, one of horse racing’s premier events, gets underway tonight with a start time of 6.18 pm (ET). The event will take place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. There are several Contenders in the event, including Dynamic Impact, who has been installed as 8/1 Odds to win the Preakness Stakes.

Dynamic Impact: 2-2-0 in 6 Races. Trainer: Mark E. Casse. Jockey: Miguel Mena Sire: Tiznow Dam: FeatherbedBest Beyer Speed: 102

It took Dynamic Impact his fifth start to claim his first victory, which took place at Oaklawn Park. He must have liked winning so much, because he also took first place in his next race, which was in the Illinois derby. In the Illinois Derby he posted a Beyer of 102, which is his highest and one of the highest in the Preakness. This horse could be hitting his stride at the right time.

Riding Dynamic Impact will be Miguel Mena, who comes from a long line of horsemen, as his father with a jockey for 17 years, his uncle was a trainer and his younger brother also is a rider in his native country of Peru. The Jockey Club of Peru was the site of Mena’s first win, in January 2003.  He won Grade 1 stakes with Champagne d’Oro in the 2010 Test, and Pool Play in the 2011 Stephen Foster Handicap. and is near 1400 victories in his career.

Mark Casse is the trainer and is a six-time Sovereign Award winner as Canada’s top trainer (2006-08, 2011-13), but this will be his first horse to be entered in the Preakness.  In his career he has won nearly 1,700 races and $83 million in purse earnings. He has trained a pair of Canadian Horses of the Year in Sealy Hill (2007) and Uncaptured (2012) and is a four-time Canadian classic winner, taking the Prince of Wales Stakes three times (2009, 2012-13) and the Breeders’ Stakes once (2007).

This is a horse that is coming in with plenty of momentum, in winning his last 2 races and is clearly a horse to be watched at the Preakness. One thing going against him here is that when the Preakness is run at a distance of 1 3/16 miles the 1 or 2 post postions are 0-34 the last 10 years. Dynamic Impact is in the #1 post position.
