The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs continue tonight when the Montreal Canadiens take on the Ottawa Senators in an NHL Playoffs Game 5 matchup. The game is scheduled for an 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on CNBC. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Canadiens favored to get the win in this series to eliminate the Senators.
Montreal won the opening three games of this series and almost found a way to pull off the sweep. Ottawa was able to hold off elimination, though, by winning a 1-0 battle on Wednesday night.
Both Carey Price and Craig Anderson played well in that game, but just one tally made the difference between winning and losing in such a close contest. The goal for Ottawa was the seventh given up by Price in four games and he's seen a ton of shots from the Senators to this point. Tonight Ottawa has to continue to crash the net, get as many shots on goal as possible and hope they can get some past Price. The Montreal goalie has stopped almost 96 percent of the shots he has faced.
The Senators have scored the first goal in each of the four games in this series, but for the most part that has been a bad omen to this point. Ottawa trailed 3-0 and now has the near-impossible task of winning four straight to win the series. It's only happened four times in NHL playoff history where a team came from three games to none all the way back to win the series — Toronto in 1942, New York Islanders in 1975, Philadelphia in 2010 and the Los Angeles Kings last year. The Kings went on to win the Stanley Cup Finals, beating the New York Rangers in five games.
And despite the potential for history to be made in this series, it's not going to happen. The Habs are a solid home team and tonight they get it done, becoming the first team to advance to the second round.
