The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the most beloved teams in college football, and they are usually one of the most successful; however, the last two seasons have brought disappointment. Oklahoma tallied 10 wins in 2011 and 2012 but it failed to win the conference on each occasion, finishing fourth in the 2011 Big 12 standings while placing second to Kansas State last year. The Sooners were also embarrassed in last season's Cotton Bowl, falling 13-41 to former conference rival Texas A&M. Unfortunately for Oklahoma fans, the latest 2013 College Football Predictions are not calling for a Sooners return to the top of the league standings.
Oklahoma, which debuted at No. 16 in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, is drawing +390 odds ($100 wins $390) to win the Big 12 Championship, leaving it behind both Oklahoma State and Texas. Bob Stoops' squad is also favored to win fewer than nine regular season games at -160 odds.
The Sooners schedule is problematic, at least in regard to double digit regular season wins, as they travel to Notre Dame, Kansas State, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. And, of course, they meet Texas in Dallas. Early college football lines from the Golden Nugget and LVH have Oklahoma favored against the Wildcats and Bears, but it is lined as a dog against the Fighting Irish, Cowboys, and Longhorns.
