Before the start of the 2013 season odds makers had a pegged a handful of teams as potential World Series winners. Among those clubs were the Washington Nationals (+1000), Los Angeles Angels (+1000), and San Francisco Giants (+1200). Hey, no one is right all the time. The books were not entirely wrong anyway as the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves were also considered teams capable of winning the Fall Classic. With the season just 10 days from its final month, those three teams are still top choices to win it all. Updated Odds to Win the 2013 World Series have the Dodgers listed as a +300 money line favorite ($100 wins $300) while the Tigers are a close second pick at +450 odds. The Braves, Red Sox, and Cardinals round out the top five with Atlanta and Boston each lined at +700 odds and St. Louis at +800.
Detroit has been the favored World Series pick most of the season, despite a few first half ups and downs, but L.A.'s ridiculous post All-Star Game run has pushed the Tigers off the top spot. The Dodgers, who nearly canned Skipper Don Mattingly after the team's horrendous start, now owns a 7.5 games lead in the NL West with a 73-52 record. Los Angeles is 26-5 since the All-Star break.
