Odds to Win the 2012 U.S. Open Golf Championship

The 112th U.S. Open Championship is set to begin Thursday, June 14th at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. The Club’s Par 71, 7574 yard Lake Course will serve as home to the weekend’s action as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and others take aim at capturing golf’s most challenging major. Odds to win the 2012 U.S. Open Golf Championship at Sportsbook.ag are favoring Woods at 6-1 ($100 to win $600) to win the event. McIlroy, last year’s U.S. Open winner, is drawing 10-1 odds while Luke Donald, the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Rankings, and fellow Brit Lee Westwood are 12-1 plays to emerge victorious at the season’s second major.

Tiger Woods has yet to return to his pre-sex scandal form, but he appears to be closer to his old self right now than at any other point over the last 3.5 years. Woods, who is seeking his 15th major and fourth U.S. Open title, has produced some ugly results this season, including 40th place finishes at the Masters and THE PLAYERS Championship; however, he has topped the leader board in two of his last five tournament entries.

Woods most recent performance took place at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio (June 3rd) where he garnered the 73rd PGA Tour win of his illustrious career. The former world’s No. 1 completed play with a nine under par 279 to best second place finishers Rory Sabbatini and Andres Romero by two strokes.

McIlory, who secured the first and only major championship of his career at last year’s U.S. Open, enters this weekend’s tournament in a bit of a slide. The pride of Northern Ireland placed a respectable seventh at the St. Jude Classic over the weekend, but he missed the cut at THE PLAYERS Championship and the Memorial prior to hitting the links at TPC Southwind.

Still, McIlroy, who sits second in both the Official World Golf Rankings and the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings, has one win and four top five finishes in eight PGA Tour events played this season.

Other notables in action this weekend include Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, and the previously mentioned Donald and Westwood. Mickelson, who is drawing 15-1 odds to win, has four major championships on his resume be has yet to win the U.S. Open. Donald, Westwood, and Johnson are all seeking their first major titles while Watson, a 40-1 play, is looking to follow up his April Masters victory with another surprising turn in San Francisco.
