The New York Islanders and Washington Capitals take to the ice again tonight in an NHL Playoffs Game 6 matchup. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on NBC. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Islanders favored at home to pick up a critical third win in the series.
This looked like a nice series on paper when the pairings became official for the playoffs. So far, through five games, it has held up to standards as the Capitals have a 3-2 lead in the series. Now the Islanders have to find a way to pick up a victory in this game at home in order to force a seventh and all-deciding game, which would certainly be entertaining. Game 7s in the NHL playoffs are some of the best live sporting events on the planet and hopefully we have a chance to witness another one from this series.
New York led the series 2-1 but struggled to get into the win column each of the last two games, falling behind in the series. The Islanders are going to have to channel a way to come back from giving up five goals in Game 5. Washington goalie Braden Holtby has been solid in net for the Capitals, winning the last two games while saving 58 of the 60 shots he's faced during that time. The Capitals certainly helped him out, scoring seven goals in those wins.
Josh Bailey has five points for the Isles in the series, including two goals. John Tavares is the best player for New York and he has a goal in one of the Islander wins, but three assists in three other games, two of which were losses. Tavares needs to play well for New York to have a chance to win, even if he doesn't get on the scoreboard. New York is a much better team when Tavares is flying around and making plays and the home crowd should certainly help fuel the Islanders in this one.
A win for the Capitals will end the series and put them into the next round. The Islanders don't want their season to end on home ice, so expect them to push as much as possible in this one. Look for the Islanders should look strong here.
