The New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings meet up tonight in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The odds for the game have the Rangers favored to pick up a win tonight. The NHL Playoffs Start Time is scheduled for a 8:00 p.m. tonight and it will be televised nationally on NBC.
This has already been a very intriguing Stanley Cup Finals. The NHL is loving the cross-country battle between teams in the two biggest American cities and already we've seen both games head into overtime, with the second game hitting a second extra session.
Tonight the Rangers need to get a win inside Madison Square Garden or they're going to have their backs completely against the wall. New York was an average team in home games this season, finishing just a couple of games over the .500 mark. New York has won six of the 10 games played inside Madison Square Garden so far this post season.
They'll have to avoid going to overtime in this game tonight, as well.
Los Angeles hasn't led a single second during regulation time in this series, but leads the series 2-0. They've been the team of opportunity so far in these finals, falling behind early in both games, rallying to find a way to tie the game and eventually winning in overtime. Two games in a row, which certainly has to mess with the mental state of the Rangers. New York was outshot by the Kings 20-3 in the third period of the first game in this series and outscored 2-0 in the final regulation period of Game 2.
This absolutely is a must-win spot for New York. The Rangers are playing in the finals for the first time in 20 years, but it won't be a memorable finals experience if they fall into an 0-3 hole to the best defensive team in hockey. Yet, the Rangers have found a way to get out to 2-0 leads in both of the opening games. Los Angeles has not played well in the opening period this series, but they've found a way to dig back in and win each game. New York had been 10-0 in the playoffs when entering the third period with a lead before losing in Game 2.
The Rangers might be up against a finals loss even before they take the ice tonight. A total of 43 of the 48 teams that led their series 2-0 in the best-of-seven finals have won the Stanley Cup.
But tonight we're taking the Rangers at home. They've played well in both games to open this series, they just weren't able to hold onto a lead. Tonight we think they get the job done.
