The Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts will kick start the NFL Wildcard Playoffs when they clash at Lucas Oil Stadium this afternoon. Today's postseason meeting between the Chiefs and Colts is scheduled to get underway at 4:35pm ET on NBC. Opening NFL Point Spreads for this contest had Indianapolis favored at 2.5 points, but the latest line from Sportsbook.com has Kansas City listed as a -1.5 pick against the spread road favorite. The Over/Under in this afternoon's game is set at 46.5 points.

When these two teams hooked up at Arrowhead on December 22nd the Colts, who were lined as a seven point road dog, scored a surprising 23-7 victory. Despite that result, Indianapolis finds itself catching points from the Chiefs again this afternoon.

So what gives? Well, most would argue Kansas City Head Coach Andy Reid called off the dogs after the Chiefs opening drive of the game. The point certainly holds water as KC drove 59 yards in four plays in taking a 7-0 lead.

Kansas City also gave its best offensive weapon, Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles, the ball just 13 times. Charles produced 106 rush yards and one score on those 13 carries, which suggests he could really do some damage to the Colts suspect rush defense if given the ball 20 to 25 times.

The Colts finished the game with 367 yards, but they averaged just 5.1 yards per play as they held the ball for 38:20. Indianapolis had ample opportunity to bury the Chiefs with Kansas City uncharacteristically turning the ball over four times (+18 in turnover margin for the season), but it was unable to separate from KC, scoring just three points in the game's final 17:47.

Of course, none of those factors mean the Chiefs will get the better of Indianapolis today, but they do indicate the better team buried the playbook and also had a few things go against it as well.

Notable Trends: The Chiefs are 4-0 both straight up and against the spread in their last four games as a road dog with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points.
