The slumping Jets will look to halt their three game skid when they square off against the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome later today (1:00pm ET start time, CBS). New York started the season with some promise, beating division rivals Buffalo and Miami to secure a 2-1 record, but its season has since taken a nose dive. The Jets are 1-5 in their last six games and they ride a three game losing streak into today’s meeting with the Rams.
New York’s most glaring problem is the poor play of its offense. The Jets are averaging just 19.4 points and 302.7 yards per game and they have failed to crest the 10 point mark on four occasions this season.
Their lack of success on that side of the ball does not bode well for them today. St. Louis (3-5-1), which is coming off a 24-24 tie with San Francisco, has experienced its share of offensive troubles this season, but unlike the Jets, it has the ability to overcome them by playing stout defense.
The Rams have been taken advantage of by good offenses like Green Bay and New England, but they usually take care of business against teams that lack offensive punch. If a team ever lacked offensive punch, it’s the current version of the Jets.
