The scuffling Jets are in Jacksonville this week seeking their first back to back wins of the season. Start time in Sunday’s showdown between the Jets and Jaguars is set for 1:00pm ET at EverBank Field; the game will be broadcast live on CBS. New York is no where near a playoff berth, but at 5-7 it is mathematically still a factor. The Jets should not tease themselves with postseason hopes, though; their main focus should be closing out the season in a respectable fashion.
It would appear the Jets have an opportunity to do that with the Jaguars, Titans, Chargers, and Bills in the offing. Aiding New York’s quest to avoid embarrassment are recent wins over St. Louis and Arizona that put Mark Sanchez, who was benched in last week’s 7-6 win against the Cardinals, and his cohorts within striking distance of the break even point.
As for Jacksonville, there is no way for it to evade embarrassment as it is already draped in the specter of humiliation. The Jaguars have just two wins and, unfortunately for them, the league does not hand out gold stars for overtime losses, of which the team has three.
So while the Jets offensive ineptitude makes them difficult to back in most situations, the Jags offensive futility is even more frightening (Jacksonville currently ranks 31st in yards per game and 30th in scoring).
