The Houston Texans are on the road a second straight week as they meet AFC South rival Tennessee at LP Field this afternoon (1:00pm ET start time, CBS). The Texans have looked a little sketchy the past two weeks as they required overtime to get past the Jaguars and Lions, two teams that are a combined 6-16 on the season. However, like all championship caliber teams, Houston found a way to overcome its opposition despite not playing its best football.
Typically, when teams play like the Texans have in recent weeks, the public tends to wonder if they are regressing or just going through a lull from which they will emerge in dramatic fashion. The line in today’s game would suggest both the odds makers and bettors are expecting the latter in the case of Houston.
It would seem the Texans are due for a dominating performance as their last truly impressive effort came before their week seven bye when they blasted the Ravens 43-13 at Reliant Stadium.
Tennessee also seems like a blowout candidate given the number of beatings it has been on the receiving end of this season. The Titans have lost seven games and done so by an average of 19.7 points per contest. One of those lopsided affairs just so happen to come against Houston as the Texans blasted their AFC South rival 38-14 on September 30th.
The series between these two teams has been a back and forth one, though, as they have spilt their last 10 games (Houston 5-4-1 against the spread). Nonetheless, Tennessee is 1-2 both straight up and against the spread in its last three games hosting the Texans.
